信心證人

• Martyr 殉道者
• 啟示錄 1:4-5 提到耶穌是信實的見證者。
• 蘇格拉底就是殉道見證人的典型。蘇格拉底的殉道見證，柏拉圖也許不會成為柏拉圖。
• 馬卡比七兄弟和他們的老師以利亞撒，以及他們的母親所羅門尼亞的殉道故事啟發了猶大‧馬卡比領導起義。
• 早期教會相傳，十二使徒都在殉道中結束生命。
• Apology辯護的文體。
• 彼得前書 3:15-16。
• 名人想要出名，贏得地位和權力。證人便於放棄他們的地位和權力，告訴人們真相。
• 真理無立足之地？
• 如果教會的實用主義變成一種不求甚解，不擇手段的功利主義，第一個犧牲的就是真理。

忍耐困苦

• 第 1 節說讀者，也就是基督徒，需要以忍耐去跑完餘下的賽程。第 2 節說耶穌忍受了十字架。第 3 節又說耶穌忍受罪人對他的頂撞。
• 馬太福音 11:29-30:我的軛是容易負的，我的擔子是輕省的。
• 將喜樂放在面前。

Think carefully

Witnesses of Faith

• Martyr
• Revelation 1:4-5 mentions Jesus as a faithful witness.
• Socrates is a typical example of a martyrdom witness. The testimony of Socrates’ martyrdom, Plato may not be Plato.
• The story of the martyrdom of the seven Maccabees brothers and their teacher Eleazar, as well as their mother Solomonia, inspired Judah Maccabee to lead the uprising.
• According to legend in the early church, the twelve apostles all died in martyrdom.
• Apology as defense。
• 1 Peter 3:15-16.
• Celebrities want to be famous, to gain status and power. But witnesses are willing to relinquish their position and power and tell the truth.
• No place for Truth?
• If the pragmatism of the church becomes a utilitarianism that does not seek to understand or use any means, the first sacrifice is truth.

Endure hardship

• Verse 1 says that the reader, the Christian, needs to run the rest of the race with patience. Verse 2 says that Jesus endured the cross. Verse 3 again says that Jesus endured the opposition of sinners against him.
• Matthew 11:29-30: My yoke is easy to bear, and my burden is light.
• Place joy in front of you.
