Present the bodies as living sacrifice
Why? The Mercies of God
- Paul saw the temporary loss of the special status of the Jews as God’s elect as part of God’s manifold mercy.
- What does mercy mean? No one, whether Jew or Gentile, can earn salvation through their own merits.
- God temporarily abandoned the Jews to show that salvation is by grace. When the Gentiles become arrogant, the result will be the same, and God will turn to show mercy to the Jews.
- Living sacrifice means not repaying evil for evil when they are persecuted by the Jews or others.
- Paul applies God’s mercy to people with different gifts. Since these gifts are freely given, they should be shared freely.
What? Holy and Pleasing Worship
- God does not want just a part of you. God wants your whole life.
- Although much of the world’s goods belonged to the young man, spiritually he belonged to the world.
How? By the renewing of the mind
- The Holy Spirit is like a lamp that helps to illuminate us, and we can observe the truth when we read the Bible.
