3 I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. 4 As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, 9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10 and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. (2 Timothy 1: 3-10) ESV

  1. Do not lose your genuine faith in God

  1. Don’t be discouraged by difficulties and obstacles

6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. (2 Timothy 1: 6-7) ESV

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (Galatian 6: 9) ESV

  1. Don’t be ashamed of suffering for the gospel

Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God. (2 Timothy 1: 8) ESV

  1. Don’t forget the grace of God’s calling

9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10 and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. (2 Timothy 1: 9-10) ESV

13 Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you. (2 Timothy 1: 13-14) ESV

Reflection and discussion questions:

  1. What difficulties and challenges will we encounter in being a good Christian and building a church that glorifies God in this era?
  2. When we continue to encounter these difficulties and challenges, what negative feelings are we likely to have?
  3. As a Christian and a church, what should we do when we encounter hardships and challenges in our ministry?
  4. What lessons can we learn from Paul’s encouragement and exhortation to Timothy that can help us overcome difficulties to accomplish our mission?

  1. 不要失去對神無偽的信

  1. 不要因困難和阻礙灰心

我們行善不可喪志，因為若不灰心，到了適當的時候就有收成。（加拉太書 6: 9）和修

  1. 不要以為福音受苦為恥

所以，不要以給我們的主作見證當作羞恥，也不要以我這為主被囚的當作羞恥，卻要為了福音的緣故，靠著神的大能，與我同受磨難。（提摩太後書 1: 8）新譯

  1. 不要忘記神呼召的恩典

9 神救了我們，以聖召呼召我們，不是按照我們的行為，卻是按照他自己的計劃和恩典；這恩典是在萬世以前，在基督耶穌裡賜給了我們的，10 但現在藉著我們救主基督耶穌的顯現，才表明出來。他廢掉了死亡，藉著福音把生命和不朽彰顯出來。（提摩太後書 1: 9-10）新譯

13 你要靠著在基督耶穌裡的信心和愛心，常常堅守從我這裡聽過的話，作為純正話語的模範；14 又要靠著那住在我們裡面的聖靈，保守所交託你的善道。 （提摩太後書 1: 13-14）新譯

反思及討論問題：

  1. 在現今世代要做一個好基督徒和建立一個榮耀神的教會，將會遇到那些難處和挑戰？
  2. 當我們不斷遇到這些難處和挑戰時，我們很容易會有那些負面的感覺？
  3. 作為一個基督徒和教會，我們在遇到事奉上的磨難和挑戰時應怎麼做？
  4. 我們從保羅給提摩太的鼓勵和勸勉中學到那些能幫助自己克服困難、完成使命的功課？
