Overcoming Spiritual Bottlenecks

Pastor Gideon Lee Psalm 42-43, Revelation 2:2-7

How to deal with spiritual bottlenecks? Clearly Wrong Answer: Just don’t do anything!

A 3-Step Breakthrough Strategy: Review, Reform, Release

42:1-4 Review (heart)

42:5 Refrain (head)

42:6-10 Reform (heart)

42:11 Refrain (head)

43:1-4 Release (heart)

43:5 Refrain (head)

His mind, wisdom, the heart that guides him, his emotions.

The key to reflection lies in stepping back to see the bigger picture. When you only learn from your own failures instead of studying others’ successes, life experiences become your blind spot. As Chinese idiom says, it doesn’t matter who starts to learn first, the one who successfully learned the lesson is the teacher.

Reformation in God does not come from our own strength. Reformation in God begins with relying on Him.

Release to God means surrendering matters to God and seeking His help.

The psalmist reviewed and discovered two initial missteps:

1. The psalmist was overly concerned with others’ mockery.

2. The psalmist seemed uncertain that God would intervene to help him.

Letter to the Ephesians in the Book of Revelation

2:2-4 Review: Much of their work was commendable. Yet mutual love and compassion for Ephesians outside the church had grown cold.

2:5 Reform: Sacrificially pour out that love from above.

2:6-7 Release. For God is just. He knows your repentance and will ultimately reward you.

Question:

  • What in your life do you think need to be reviewed, reformed, and released?
  • How do you go about doing it?
